Thirty-three-year-old Ronald Kanhai, of Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was fined $200,000 on Monday, after he pleaded guilty to a driving under the influence of alcohol charge.
He was charged under the Influence of Alcohol, contrary to Section 39A (1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02, as amended by Act No. 17 of 2022.
Kanhai, however, appeared before Magistrate Caressa Henry at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded guilty and was fined $200,000 or an alternative of two months’ imprisonment.
