Sixty-year-old Cyprian Pollard, also called “Jacko”, a gold miner of Second Avenue, Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), was on Tuesday sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on a trafficking in narcotics charge.
Pollard was arrested last Sunday and made an appearance before Magistrate Caressa Henry at Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him. He reportedly pleaded guilty, resulting in the imposed sentence.
Meanwhile, Davell Mendonca, 26, also of Second Avenue, Bartica, also appeared before Magistrate Caressa Henry on Monday, where a Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol charge was read to him.
He pleaded guilty and was fined $200,000, with an alternative of three months’ imprisonment.
