Elite League… Barrow strike helps Slingerz needle Police

Following an exciting opening night on Saturday, the excitement boiled over into Sunday evening as the 2026/27 Elite League continued with another double-header.
Football fans flocked the Guyana Football Federation’s National Training Centre (NTC) at Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD), where two close encounters unfolded; one including 2025’s top teams.
Santos Football Club started the night’s proceedings with a 2-1 victory over Ann’s Grove United FC.
Yohance Francis put Ann’s Grove ahead in the 10th minute, but their lead was short-lived as Tyrice Dennis found the back of the net in the 34th for a 1-1 score at the half.
It was Santos’ Ian Daniels who found the game winner in the 71st minute to secure his team’s three points.

The Elite League’s defending champions got off to a winning start

That was followed by a clash of the League’s 2025 top two finishers in Slingerz FC and the Guyana Police Force (GPF) FC.
Ironically, it was Neron Barrow’s 23rd-minute strike which made the difference between the two teams as Slingerz registered a 1-0 victory. Barrow had competed for Police in 2025, ending the league as the highest goal-scorer before transferring to Slingerz FC in the June-July 2026 transfer window.
The Elite League will continue next weekend with another pair of double-headers.
On Saturday, September 5, Police FC battle Fruta Conquerors FC from 18:30h, while Monedderlust FC and Den Amstel FC face off from 21:00h.
On Sunday, September 6, Slingerz FC go toe-to-toe with the League’s debutants Camptown FC from 18:30h while Western Tigers take on GDF FC from 21:00h.
The teams in the 2026/ 27 Elite League are competing for an increased $4 million grand prize.
