Watched by Head of State, Dr Irfaan Ali; a host of Government Ministers and boxing enthusiasts, Guyanese boxer Elton Dharry won the WBC Super Flyweight International title at the “Road to Redemption” boxing event held at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Dharry, a US-based fighter, fought Panamanian boxer Orlando Penalba and won the feature clash, while Guyanese boxer Dexter “The Kid” Marques fought Panamanian boxer Gilberto Pedroza, and lost the WBC Flyweight International Silver belt.
In the main event, the judges’ scores read 97-92, 94-93, 99-92 in favour of Dharry. Before the fights began, President Ali mingled and interacted with fans and spectators gathered at the venue.
Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Hugh Todd; Culture, Youth and Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr; Labour Minister Joseph Hamilton; other Government officials and members of the diplomatic community joined the Head of State at the matches.
