Employees charged for robbing, beating Brazilian boss

Three pitmen who had confessed to beating and robbing a Brazilian businessman at Sandhill/Oku Landing, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), were on Monday arraigned with armed robbery.
Christopher James, 20, of Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE); 19-year-old Jermain Melville, also of Tuschen Housing Scheme, and 23-year-old Dellon Benjamin of Suddie Sand Creek, Essequibo Coast, appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert via Zoom and were not required to plead to the charge.
The police stated that on June 26, 2020, at Sandhill/Oku Landing, they beat and robbed 62-year-old Adam DaSilva, a gold miner of Boa Vista, Brazil.
In defending their actions, the three men told the Magistrate that they only committed the act after they were not paid for work done for the businessman.
Magistrate Lambert remanded the trio to prison until July 27.
It was reported that the suspects carted off with an undisclosed quantity of raw gold while DaSilva suffered a fractured leg and laceration about the body due to the beating.
