Engineer on $250,000 bail for illegal gun, ammo charges

Kayode Goodman, an engineer of Section C Enterprise, East Coast Demerara, appeared virtually before Magistrate Dylon Bess to answer to charges of possession of ammunition and possession of a firearm while he was not the holder of a licence.
Goodman was charged contrary to Section 16 (2) (a) of the Firearm Act Cap 16:05. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
It is alleged that on April 6, Goodman was arrested after he was reportedly found with the illegal gun and ammo at the Port Kaituma waterfront.

The gun and ammunition

Reports are that Police went to the waterfront in search of the 45-year-old man after a report was made at the Port Kaituma Police Station, North West District (NWD), by a man alleging that he had been threatened with a firearm.
The prosecution is contending that during a search of his person, a black .32 pistol fell out of his left pants leg. The weapon was examined and found to be loaded with eight live matching rounds, Police said. This resulted in Goodman being arrested and taken to the Port Kaituma Police Station where the firearm, along with the ammunition, were lodged.
Goodman was released on $250,000 bail by Magistrate Bess. As a condition for bail, he was ordered to report to the Port Kaituma Police Station on the first Friday of every month until the conclusion of the case. The matter has been adjourned to May 4. (G15)
