EPA expands “Nah Dutty De Place” campaign with seawall outreach

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has intensified its public awareness campaign against littering, hosting a series of outreach activities along the Seawall over the weekend as preparations continue for its annual Green Walk and Exhibition on May 31. The activities followed the official launch of the “Nah Dutty De Place” campaign last week and were aimed at encouraging cleaner public spaces and greater environmental responsibility. During the weekend exercise, the EPA established an information booth where members of the public received guidance on proper waste disposal, personal responsibility and the agency’s environmental protection efforts. EPA officers were also stationed along sections of the Seawall, where they engaged vendors and patrons on the effects of littering and the need to keep recreational areas clean. In a release, the EPA said that business operators in the area welcomed the initiative and supported the message of responsible waste management. As part of activities leading up to the Green Walk, the EPA will also launch a street theatre campaign on the Seawall beginning May 8 and 9. Performances will continue throughout the month and will feature popular local actors. According to the agency, the production will use entertainment to reinforce the “Nah Dutty De Place” message by showing the consequences of littering while encouraging citizens to take pride in maintaining a clean environment.
The EPA is also reminding the public that littering is an offence under the laws of Guyana and can lead to fines and other penalties upon conviction. Repeat offenders may face stricter consequences.
The agency said the campaign is intended to encourage behavioural change, improve compliance with environmental regulations, and promote a stronger sense of shared responsibility in communities.
The Green Walk and Exhibition, scheduled for May 31, is expected to be the culmination of the month-long campaign.
