Essequibo Coast CID Dept, unoccupied Army Base destroyed by fire

The Criminal Investigation Department Office at Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast along with an unoccupied building, located at Maria’s Lodge also on the Essequibo Coast, that once housed an Army Base was destroyed by fire this morning set on fire.

The Criminal Investigation Department Office building is located on the northeastern corner of the Anna Regina Police Station. An officer was reportedly in the compound when he observed smoke coming from the Regional Detective Inspectors Office and as a result, the Guyana Fire Service was immediately summoned.

The fire fighters succeeded in putting out the blaze before it destroyed the entire building. This publication understands that a blade was removed from the louvres window of the building where the fire began.

Arson is suspected.

Meanwhile, an unoccupied Army Base at Maria’s Lodge was also destroyed by fire.

Based on reports, the fire started sometime between 03:00h and 03:30h at the wooden building that once housed the Army Base Second Infantry Battalion. Neighbours reported observed smoke emanating from the top flat of the building and formed a bucket brigade and subsequently extinguished the flames.

The building has no electricity and investigations into both fires have been launched.
