Essequibo Coast cook fined $25,000 for refusing breathalyser test

A 41-year-old cook from Onderneeming Sandpit, Essequibo Coast, was fined $25,000 after pleading guilty to refusing to provide a breath specimen for a breath alcohol test. Shannon Success appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court on Friday last where the charge was read to her.
The court heard that the offence occurred on May 26 along the Aurora Public Road, Essequibo Coast. Success was charged under Section 39B (5) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02, for refusing to provide a breath specimen for a breath alcohol test. She entered a guilty plea to the charge.
Magistrate Mohabir imposed a fine of $25,000. In default of payment, Success will serve three months’ imprisonment.
