Essequibo Coast teen hijacker nabbed by Police

Police in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) were on Sunday able to bust a gang that has been committing several burglaries and larceny in the region.

According to information received, at about 20:00h, a police patrol while in the vicinity of Capoey, Essequibo Coast, noticed a motor car that was stolen three days ago. Upon realising that Police were behind them, the driver of the car sped away, prompting Police to give chase. During the high-speed chase, the car crashed and several exited and opened fire at lawmen. The police returned fire as the men fled on foot. However, the 18-year-old driver was left behind.
Reports are the driver, a resident of Red Village, Onderneeming, was searched and lawmen unearthed a pair of gloves, one crowbar, one knife, one piece of jewellery with initials, one mask, and a plastic strap in his possession.
He was immediately taken into Police custody while the vehicle was escorted to a police station and lodged—investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, Commander of Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Superintendent Crystal Robinson confirmed that the men are attached to a string of robberies.
She stated that on Friday, the men joined a car at Anna Regina, and before they could have reached their destination, they told the driver to turn in at Capoey and robbed the man of his cellphone, some money and the car.
The 18-year-old driver is expected to be hauled before the court during the week. (G1)
