Essequibo, Georgetown, West Berbice dominate 4th round

2018 GCB/CGI Jaguars 50-Over League…
– Johnson, Griffith, Anderson among run-getters

It was a run-fest as round 4 of the ongoing Cricket Guyana Inc (CGI) Jaguars 50-Over Leagues continued across the country with some thrilling action, apart from the East Coast Demerara/West Demerara encounter which was abandoned due to rain.

At Everest, it was a decent encounter between Georgetown and East Bank Demerara, highlighted by Trevon Griffith’s ton and Leon Johnson’s match-winning fifty. East Bank batting first, compiled 201 all out in 45.2 overs with the opener Griffith leading the way with a stylish century 111, which included four 4’s and seven 6’s. Windies middle-order batsman Vishaul Singh was the next best scorer, hitting a solitary boundary in his 45. Georgetown’s bowling was led by all-rounder Christopher Barnwell and Ramaal Lewis collected 2 wickets for 45 and 21 runs respectively, while the Guyana U19 pair of pacer Qumar Torrington and Ashmead Nedd collected a wicket each.
Georgetown in reply, graced their way to victory as they battled their way to successfully achieved their total in 43 overs and 2 wickets to spare. Robin Bacchus smashed a good-looking 26, getting off the mark with a big six, but perished before he could push on.
Under-19 batsman Raymond Perez chipped in with 29 while Barnwell hit 37 but it was Captain, Johnson who saw his team home with an unbeaten 83, his second fifty of the competition to keep the champs momentum going.

Lower Corentyne vs Essequibo
Over at Albion, in Berbice, Lower Corentyne batting first, could only muster 110 all out in 29 overs. Youth sensation, Kevlon Anderson top score with a pugnacious 54. Kelvin Umroa, with 10 not out, was the only other Lower Corentyne players to reach double figures. Bowling for Essequibo, Ricardo Adams and Anthony Adams, were once again impressive with the ball, ripping through the Lower Corentyne’s batting order to claim 4 for 24 and 3 for 24 respectively.
Essequibo in reply, were made to work hard to achieve their winning target, as bowlers Kelvin Umroa, Kassim Khan and left-arm spinner Veerassammy Permaul made Essequibo batsmen toil for every run, as they respectively captured 3 for 17, 2 for 25 and 2 for 26. Essequibo, eventually gained victory off 36.2 overs, as they reached 114 for 7.
Essequibo won by 3 wickets.

Upper Corentyne vs West Berbice
At Port Mourant, on the Corentyne of Berbice, West Berbice won the toss and sent Upper Corentyne in to take first strike, a decisive move, which witnessed Upper Corentyne crumbling for 51 runs off 24 overs. Shawn Perriera and Andy Mohan were the only batsmen to present any real effort of resistance, scoring 10 runs each. Bowling for West Berbice, Gudakesh Motie was the most destructive bowler grabbing 4 for 14, while Javid Karim, Kevin Sinclair and Kevin Jawahir picked up 2 wickets for 6, 10 and 8 runs respectively.
West Berbice in response, maintained control of the game, as they comfortably attained their victory target in 11 overs with 7 wickets to spare. Javid Karim top scored with 27. Clintion Pestano, Sylus Tyndall and Eon Hooper took a wicket each.
West Berbice won by 7 wickets.
On Monday 24th September, 2018 action continues with Lower Corentyne versus East Coast and Enmore, East Bank takes on West Berbice at Bush Lot, Georgetown faces West Demerara at Everest while Upper Corentyne battles Essequibo at Port Mourant from 09 00 hours.
