Essequibo youths urged to stay away from criminal activities

Commander of G Division (Essequibo Coast/Islands) Khali Parashram has urged youths on the Essequibo Coast and Islands to get involved in meaningful activities in order to stay away criminal activities.

Parashram was at the time addressing scores of youths of various youth groups, at the Affiance Community ground.

The Commander explained that the police are working effortlessly to educate youth groups across and to encourage them to become actively involved in positive initiatives. Young people are encouraged to join various groups that will positively influence them, empower their minds and impart the necessary skills for a bright future.

Alluding to the successes of the drive thus far, Parashram disclosed that 36 youths from various groups are currently enrolled at the Essequibo Technical Institute (ETI) where they will acquire technical and vocational skills. At the end of their courses the young people will be equipped to earn a livelihood and support their families.

Youth groups across the Region including Charity, Henrietta, Lima Sands, Queenstown, Zorg, Wakenaam, Onderneeming and Good Hope, attended the event. Each group marched under different banners portraying positive messages against drug abuse, domestic violence, suicide, and crime.

The youths participated in fun games and trophies were presented to winners at the end of the activity.

The activity was part of the Police Force’s crime prevention activities.
