Expectations high ahead of final

– fans urged to come out in their numbers

From seven teams it is now down to a clash between San Souci Jaguars and G Square Cavaliers to determine the champions of the seventh annual V Net Communications T20 blast at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground on Sunday.
Jaguars’ captain Sidique Mohamed, told << Guyana Times Sport>> on Friday, that though they are being touted as the favorites, they are not getting ahead of themselves. “We don’t have any thoughts of overconfidence, we will be going out and play basic cricket and if we apply ourselves correctly, we know we can come out victorious.”

Led by Nokta Moses who made an unbeaten 102 – the only century of the competition to date- they convincingly defeated Cavaliers during the preliminary stages. However, Mohamed is still wary of the surprise the opposition can spring even though Cavaliers have never won a match against them.
Given the small size of the ground, the captain, stated that his team’s bowling needs to come good. The lanky seamer also stated he will continue to look for good performances from Moses who has been exceptional with both bat and ball.
On the other side of the coin, Caviliers skipper Lakeran Narine contended that his team has a good chance of winning should they play a “well all-round match.”
“Our team is in great form; our batting is lineup is doing well. Our bowlers are intact. We have a good chance of winning but we have to focus on our fielding. If there is one thing we need to improve on it’s our fielding.”
Narine hopes his batters Satnarine Sahadeo and Satrohan Shiwnandan can continue their impressive form.
Meanwhile, Managing Director of V-Net Communications Safraz Sherifudeen expressed his pleasure with the level of intensity shown by teams. This year’s tournament had an additional team and the format allowed for more sides to showcase their talents.
The organizer is hoping that fans come out in their numbers and support the final, stating that it is too close to call now and nothing but a thriller can be on the cards.
The winning team will pocket $100,000 and the championship trophy while the runners-up will receive $50,000 and the corresponding accolade.
Match time is 11:00h.
