ExxonMobil employee killed in hit-and-run

An employee attached to ExxonMobil Guyana lost his life on Saturday evening after he was struck down by a truck at Providence on the East Bank of Demerara.

Dead is 29-year-old Everton Bradford Charles of Lot 282 Earls Avenue Subryanville, Georgetown. At the time of the accident, the young man was riding along the Providence, EBD Highway, when a sand truck struck him down and continued on its journey.
The injured man was left in an unconscious state but was subsequently picked up and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he succumbed to his injuries.
Superintendent of Police, Kurleigh Simon when contacted told Guyana Times that the accident occurred at about 19:30h.
He added that the now dead man was riding motorcycle CJ 5283, and both he and the truck driver were proceeding in the same direction when the accident took place.
Further commenting on the accident, the Superintendent said that the driver of the truck, who drove off the scene, was arrested on Sunday morning and is assisting with investigations.
At the home of the dead man on Sunday afternoon, his mother was reluctant to give a comment and requested some privacy especially at this time.
Charles’ body is currently at a funeral parlour awaiting a post-mortem.
