One of the most galling bare-facednesses your Eyewitness encounters in the press is the periodic presumptuous pontifications of Burnham’s number one henchman – Hamilton Green. Your Eyewitness figures he’s gotta be in the homestretch to hit his century – seeing as how he was there with his cousin Burnham as a grown-ass man when the latter split the PPP to betray the national cause!! Green insists on labelling himself with the honorific “Elder” – implying he’s gathered the wisdom that sometimes comes with age! But in his case – as is evident from his scribblings – age seems to have only intensified his myopic biases that seek to burnish Burnham’s faded star, hoping to bask in the glow.
In his case, however, his interventions only highlight instances of Burnham’s bunglings and bring them to the attention of a new generation. Take his latest missive wherein he boasts about Burnham’s “ability to identify individuals of competence and loyalty to serve the people of the State of Guyana”. He’s obviously implying that since he was there, he’s an “individual of competence and loyalty”!! But about what??!! Looting, burning and racial violence?? Among the persons he DID name was “Shirley Field-Ridley” – his wife and Minister of Education – who was killed under extremely suspicious circumstances that made the country question why he ordered an immediate cremation and precluded an autopsy!!!
Anyhow, what’s the claim he invoked this time on his Burnham reclamation project?? He referred to the Venezuela border controversy – which we placed at the ICJ as per the operations of the Geneva that Venezuela signed – whose oral arguments are going to begin on Monday for a final decision by next year. He pointed out that a Venezuela-Guyana mixed boundary commission – pursuant to the aforementioned Geneva Agreement – had done “extensive research and documentation” which should now be referred to – presumably in our oral arguments. He couldn’t resist claiming the PPP – whom he referred to as “cultural barbarians” – might’ve “wantonly burnt” them!!
But this just reincarnates old arguments as to whether Burnham should’ve gone along with the Geneva Agreement and its “Mixed Commission” – seeing that our position was the 1899 Arbitral Agreement was a “full and final” settlement!! And even now Green doesn’t see that we’re waaaaay past the maps and documents the Venezuelans submitted on their claim!! The Venezuelans assumed through that process we would flex and make some kinda settlement favourable to them!!
But we didn’t and went and, as the Geneva Agreement stipulated, engaged the “good offices” of the UN Secretary General – futilely!! The SG finally submitted the matter to the ICJ – which can only pronounce on the finality of the 1899 Award!
Unlike what Green ignorantly assumes, we’re not relitigating the contours of our border!! We don’t need no maps and discussions!!

… Chinese pretences
So, what’s behind our condemnation – along with T&T, the US, Bolivia, Costa Rica and Paraguay – in support of Panama’s because China red-flagged 70 of its (flagged) ships?? Now as we – and the rest of the world – learnt to our cost, we just can’t have China – who’s moving heaven and earth to surpass the US as the #1 global power – control such a critical waterway as the Panama Canal!! There’s no question they’ll weaponise it – as Iran did to the Straits of Hormuz – in a tiff with the US!
Panama had reappropriated control over two ports on the canal from a Hong Kong company – since granting the control to begin with was unconstitutional!! What China did in RETALIATION was to impound seventy Panamanian-flagged vessels. But it’s claiming its actions wasn’t connected to the port matter – it’s all about inaccurate paperwork!!
Who does China think it’s fooling by pretending it’s a kindly Granma – when it’s the Big bad Wolf!!

Last Wednesday, the 2020 elections riggers returned to one of the scenes of the crime – GECOM HQ in Kingston!! This, of course, is where Mingo did a number (of his numbers!!) on a stained bedsheet!!
