Fashion designer launches prom collection at “Afternoon Delight”

In what was one of the most sought-after ticketed events for the Easter season, the New Thriving Restaurant in Providence, East Bank Demerara in association with the Sonia Noel Foundation for the Creative Arts debuted “Afternoon Delight”, which included a fashion show and display.
“Afternoon Delight” is set to be a daily staple for the newly-built branch of the restaurant chain. From 15:00h to 17:00h on a daily basis, patrons will be able to order off the Tea and Dessert Menu, choosing from a wide assortment of teas and desserts.
Fashion designer Noel launched her prom collection, displaying very elegant and tasteful gowns for the upcoming finale of high school.
Displaying those pieces were actual students from St Rose’s High, Tutorial High, North Georgetown Multilateral and Nations University. One of the girls noted that the ‘experience was one she would never forget’.
The models were all adorned with jewellery by Fiona Northe-Graham and make-up done by Meleesa Payne-Bishop, Leisa Gibson, and Niketa Hussain; Hussain was on site to give make-up tips and advice and to apply any make-up or makeovers for patrons wanting a touch-up.
Also on site was Natasha Azeez, who has become wildly popular for her very unique and economically priced henna designs. In the background, attendees were ‘lullabied’ by the sweet and soft melodies of Keith Campbell on the saxophone and veteran musician Herbie Hancook on the guitar.
Two lucky patrons, in the junior and senior categories, won dinner for two at the New Thriving Restaurant for their very creative hat display.
New Thriving is intent on staging a show once per month to build the “Afternoon Delight” brand. May 6 will see the Tribute to Mothers’ edition; details will be available in the press soon.
Noel said: “”Afternoon Delight” is the perfect event to relax and have some tea with new and old friends, catching up with family or just having some me time. We wanted to create an atmosphere of pure relaxation and fashion, basking in the beautiful ambience of the New Thriving Restaurant.”
Campbell and Hancook’s instrumentals with the vocals of Gospel singer Mariam Corlette Williams certainly added sophistication to this memorable event.
