A father of three of Lot 46 Houston Housing Scheme, Greater Georgetown, was granted bail in the sum of 0,000 after he made an appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on a charge of simple larceny.
Chanderpaul Mangru pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that between May 2014 and October 2016, he stole a quantity of hardware items amounting to $1.8 million, property of Abdul Gafoor.
The prosecution explained to the court that the stolen hardware items were not recovered.
Mangru’s Attorney, Mottee Singh, told the court that he does not understand the reason for his client being brought before the court since he did not commit any crime. He stated that on the day in question, ranks conducted a search on his client’s lower flat premises, without a search warrant.
He further made an application for reasonable bail, stating that his client is a father of three minor children.
Mangru was initially granted bail in the sum of $150,000 but Singh pleaded with the Chief Magistrate for a lesser bail since his client only had $100,000.
Mangru will return to court on November 21 for report.
