Fearless Carter focused on giving Vipers fast start

Young West Indies Under-19 batter Zachary Carter says his primary objective is to provide his team with the best possible start after producing a match-winning innings for the Desert Vipers in the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL).
Carter played a pivotal role in the Vipers’ first victory of the tournament, smashing a blistering 55 from 29 balls to lay the foundation for a comfortable nine-wicket win over the San Francisco Unicorns at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
Reflecting on his approach at the crease, the talented opener said his focus is always on giving his side the strongest platform, particularly during the powerplay.
“I try to get my team in the best position possible. I look to express myself. I try to play as fearless as possible. I try to get my team in the best position possible,” Carter said following the victory.
The aggressive right-hander added that his mindset before walking out to bat was clear: to capitalise on the fielding restrictions and put pressure on the opposition from the outset.

“My mindset was just, as I said previously, to maximise the power play and put my team in the best position possible,” he explained.
Despite his impressive performance, Carter acknowledged that he is still learning and is making full use of the opportunity to share a dressing room with several experienced T20 campaigners.
“Just trying to pick their brains. They’re seasoned T20 players, so picking their brain will be very vital in my journey,” he said.
Carter’s attacking half-century, which featured seven fours and three sixes, set the tone for the Vipers’ successful chase of 152. His innings, combined with unbeaten knocks from Saiteja Mukkamalla and Rilee Rossouw, secured the franchise’s first win of the competition after consecutive defeats.
The performance further highlighted Carter’s potential as one of the Caribbean’s brightest young batting prospects. Having already represented the West Indies at the Under-19 level, the youngster continues to gain valuable experience by competing alongside established international stars in the Global Super League.
With confidence now flowing through the Desert Vipers camp, Carter will be hoping to build on his impressive display as the tournament enters its decisive stages.
