Williams, Adams miss out on Commonwealth Games 400m heats

Guyana’s Revon Williams and Simeon Adams were unable to advance from the opening round of the men’s 400 metres at the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday, while the country’s swimmers also exited their respective heats.
Adams produced the stronger performance of the two Guyanese quarter-milers, clocking a season-best 47.35 seconds to finish fifth in Heat Four. However, his time was not enough to secure a place in the next round.
Jamaica’s Zandrion Barnes won the heat in a season-best 45.13s, ahead of Australia’s Reece Holder, who recorded 45.63s. Trinidad and Tobago’s Jaden Marchan finished third in 46.17s, while Zambia’s Kennedy Luchembe was fourth in 46.44s. All four advanced.
Williams placed sixth in Heat One after completing the one-lap event in 48.25s.
Nigeria’s Edidiong Okon Udo won that race in 45.73s, with Barbados’ Desean Boyce second in 46.55s. Grenada’s Michael Francois finished third in 46.62s, while Uganda’s Haron Adoli was fourth in 47.27s.

Swimming
Guyana also had three swimmers competing on Tuesday, but none progressed beyond the heats.
Delroy Tyrrell finished second in Heat Two of the men’s 50m butterfly in 26.00 seconds, 0.75 seconds behind Sri Lanka’s Muhammad Mohamed Fidhyan, who won in 25.25s.
Despite their top-two finishes, neither swimmer advanced to the next round. Guyana’s Chase Thompson placed seventh in the same heat with a time of 30.35s.
In the women’s 50m freestyle, Aleka Persaud finished seventh in Heat Four after touching the wall in 28.13s.
Guernsey’s Emma Bourgaize won the heat in 27.50s but also missed out on qualification. Brunei’s Sharmeen Mohammad Mharvin was second in 27.63s, while Belize’s Davia Richardson placed third in 27.68s.
Guyana will return to the track on Wednesday, with Shamar Horatio, Jackson Clarke and Noelex Holder scheduled to contest the men’s 200m heats.
