The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) is nearing completion of the installation of artificial turf at the FIFA Arena Mini-Pitch in Retrieve, Linden, Region Ten, as part of its efforts to improve football infrastructure and expand opportunities for young players across the country.

The facility is one of two FIFA Arena Mini-Pitches donated to Guyana by FIFA under its global FIFA Arena initiative, which supports the objectives of the FIFA Football for Schools (F4S) programme. The second facility is located at Haslington, East Coast Demerara.
Once completed, the Retrieve mini-pitch will serve as a training centre for the Blue Water Shipping Girls Academy, while also providing schools, the regional football association and community organisations with access to a dedicated playing facility.
The project is expected to increase participation in organised football, particularly among children and young people in Linden and surrounding communities.
Linden, which has produced several of Guyana’s leading footballers over the years, has been identified by the Federation as an important area for continued investment in youth football development.
According to the GFF, the facility will provide a suitable environment for structured training programmes, allowing young players to improve their technical skills while creating opportunities for the early identification and development of football talent.
The Federation also expects the mini-pitch to encourage greater community involvement in football while promoting healthy lifestyles and positive engagement among young people.
The Retrieve project forms part of the GFF’s wider infrastructure development programme, which has received support from FIFA.
Over the next four years, the Federation intends to support the installation of several FIFA Arena Mini-Pitches in each of its regional associations, creating a nationwide network of accessible football facilities.
The planned expansion will focus on improving football infrastructure, particularly in communities outside the country’s main urban centres, where access to suitable playing facilities remains an important consideration.
Through the initiative, the GFF hopes to provide schools, grassroots programmes and community organisations with improved environments for regular football activities, while strengthening the country’s long-term player development system.
