Fighting…dirty

The desperation of the Venezuelans – now led by Devious Delcy – to take the minds of their beleaguered populace who haven’t fled off their daily humiliations by insisting they “wuz robbed” of the Essequibo by the perfidious Brits – who are ironically today a toothless lion!! – knows no bounds! After all, Delcy sees how tenuous Mad Maduro’s hold on power was – now that he’s sweating in a cell in Miami decked out in his orange jumpsuit!! But they say every rope has an end, and over in the Netherlands at the World Court the Venezies are seeing that end, and their desperation’s going through the roof!!
Once again, they raised the fundamental assertion that undergirds their claim to Essequibo – by asserting that the 1899 Arbitral Award was null and void!! And they were forced to expose their trump card – which was revealed to be a Joker!! They had to admit that while they’d accepted the award for decades, it was only when a letter written by one Severo Mallet-Prevost was revealed in 1949 – exactly 50 years after the award!! – asserting there was some sort of hanky-panky between some members of the tribunal that they raised the issue!!
Now Mallet-Prevost was a lawyer employed by the AMERICAN law firm hired to represent Venezuela at the arbitration Venezuela demanded by invoking the Monroe Doctrine – to sic America on the Brits!! US President Grover Cleveland didn’t mind tweaking the British Lion’s tail – since that would boost his domestic standing!! But the bottom line is that Mallet-Prevost was unable to convince the panel of their client’s case – such as it was!! So as a Venezuelan supporter, how’d you expect him to feel?? That’s right – he was pi55ed as hell and held a grudge for the rest of his life!! But he also didn’t want to admit that if Venezuela’s claim were as solid as they insisted, then maybe he didn’t represent their cause competently!! That reputation he wouldn’t want!!
So, it wasn’t surprising that, reaching the end of his life in 1944, he penned his letter claiming there was a “deal” between the UK and Russian arbitrators to “fix” the border in favour of the UK!! It’s important that he didn’t publish his dastardly allegations while he was alive – because some of the parties he was libelling woulda been around to demolish his claims!! And sue his a55!! He left instructions that when he croaked – which happened in 1949 – the letter should be released to the public.!!
And it was from then that slowly the sentiment “we wuz robbed” started to grow in Venezuela!! They took concrete steps when they raised the allegation at the UN in 1962 when independence was in our sight!!
The Venezuelan case rests on fabrications!!

…for instant gratification
Well, in Guyana the brouhaha – not no DEBATE – about who’s getting all the WEALTH continues. Now this wasn’t unexpected – because after two centuries of fighting for scraps from the masters’ table, when we hit that oil bonanza, $$$ signs appeared before everybody’s eyes!! Hadn’t we seen what oil $$$ could do for previously poverty-stricken backwater colonies?? Think Abu Dhabi with its skyscrapers literally scraping the skies and its artificial beaches giving our Caribbean ones more than a run for their money!!
But we gotta be real – if Rome wasn’t built in a day, neither was Abu Dhabi!! Their oil started flowing back in the late 1930s, but with careful planning, they only started transforming their country in the sixties – over TWO DECADES LATER!! Now this doesn’t mean we gotta wait two decades for our folks to share in our new wealth!! But to listen to the Opposition after four years, we should all be tooling round in Lamborghinis!!
And be broke after the oil runs out!!
