From 24 teams, it is now down to the final sixteen in the sixth annual Milo Schools Football Championship as the round-robin matches came to a conclusion on Sunday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Based on the point standings, three-time defending champions Chase Academic Foundation, Annandale Secondary, Morgan’s Learning Centre, Purse Masters, Sir Leon’s Lesson, Uitvlugt Secondary, Buxton Youth Development, Buinnness School,Christianburg Wismar Secondary, Vergenoegen Secondary, Masters Academy and Lodge Secondary would have qualified as the top two teams in their groups.

Sunday’s results saw Uitvlugt hammering Cummings Lodge 11-2. Ruben Danty (10th, 23rd and 50th) was the chief destroyer with Jonathan Leitch (19th and 20th) and Scion Prince (21st and 26th) each scoring braces.
Single strikes also came from Charles Benn (14th), Tadius Edwards (39th), Micheal McKend (55th) and Moses Best (56th). On the opposing side was Nathaniel Williams (28th) and Keno Todd (53rd).
Morgan’s learning Center needled Pure Master through Derwin George (14th) while Christianburg Secondary were also winners when they beat Annandale 2-0 thanks to a double from Jermaine Mason in the 37th and 48th minutes.
Action in the business-end of the tournament is set to intensify in the bid to secure the first place prize of $500,000 which goes towards a school project. Second to fourth, will receive $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively which also go towards school projects.
The under-18 tournament is collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health under the theme, “there is no excuse for violence” will continue this weekend at the aforementioned venue.
