Finally… war’s end?

The US and Iran finally announced a truce to their four-month long war!! Now, we better take notice since we have a lotta skin in that game!! The skin being the price of crude oil that skyrocketed from around $68 per barrel for our Brent grade- all the way to the high US$120s!! Rounding off our 14.5% of the 950,000 barrels per day that’s our share of production – 137,750 bpd- meant we raked in an extra US$8 million every day of the week!! That ain’t exactly chickenfeed!!
Now your Eyewitness ain’t rooting for the war to continue!! He knows some of its other effects – such as the price of fertilizers – also skyrocketed and triggered inflation across the world and here because of farm products getting more expensive!! But for our govt to plan our spending to build that economic base to put us into the first world ranks, what are we to expect from our present oily cash cow?? Well, right now Brent has settled at US$88 per barrel – which is still pretty higher than the rep-war level!!
This means two things. Firstly, that the disruptions in all sorts of supply chains in addition to that of crude oil ain’t gonna be sorted out immediately!! The disruption is gonna linger!! The other being that not many expect that the war has actually ended for real!! For instance, one of the reasons the US started the war was its insistence that Iran abandon its nuclear program. But even though the exact agreement reached hasn’t been released – and that’s significant! – your Eyewitness understands it didn’t address Iran’s nuclear program!! The countries now have 60 days to settle that and some of their other thornier issues, including sanctions relief for Tehran and Lebanon’s status!
The ceasefire announcement has already teed off Israelis of every stripe – with the nuclear issue being non-negotiable for them!! Your Eyewitness sees Bibi Netanyhu continuing merrily with his razing of Lebanon to join Gaza – with at best exclaiming “Ooops!!” to Trump, if pulled up!! We’ve seen the Israeli lobby power to control US foreign policy in the MidEast!! So with them having the wherewithal to act with impunity against Iran – and any of its surrogates such as Hezbollah – oil prices should remain quite elevated for a while, thank you!!
So the government should continue doing what it’s doing – institutionalizing its programs to empower every Guyanese with the desire to develop themselves- economically and otherwise – to do so!! Your Eyewitness suggests it intensifies its efforts to free some of our people from mental slavery – which is increasing thanks to social media.

…a real Badjohn
After sixty years of independence looks like we finally got a real badjohn in the making – a fella by the name of Rondy Jagdeo!! And to fit our newly elevated economic status he’s always described as a “businessman”!! He first came to your Eyewitness attention back in 2013 – when he was charged for murdering his biker friend – one Kirk Davis!!
The Police claimed it was in retaliation for Kirk kissing Rondy’s wife on her neck at Palm Court!! Seems a white Premio pulled up in front of Kirk’s home in Eccles, Kirk enters the back seat and the driver empties SIXTEEN slugs into him – then dumps the body on the road!! Rondy turned himself in but was freed six months later after the seven witnesses the police identified – including Kirk’s wife – couldn’t nbe found!!
Then a year ago he was charged for treason for posting “Essequibo belongs to Venezuela” on social media. The magistrate ruled the prosecution had no case!!
Now we hear of him being charged for possession of 23 AK-47s!!
