Fire caused by kerosene lamp leaves 2 homeless

A kerosene lamp was the cause of a fire at Lovely Lass, West Coast Berbice (WCB) in the wee hours of Monday, which devastated a two-storey house.

According to information received, the house was owned by Ismay Dalrymple, who resided on the upper flat. Clayton Webster resided on the ground floor.
Divisional Fire Officer (Berbice) Clive Mc Donald informed that the fire was reported about 03:22h. Responders were dispatched to the scene, and fought the blaze. However, the wooden and concrete building with its contents were completely destroyed.
An investigation has led to the conclusion that the cause of fire was a kerosene lamp and ignited combustibles.
It was reported that residents in the community were not aware of the contact number for fire stations in close proximity. Hence, a call was made to an off-duty fireman who reported the fire.
