Fisherman feared dead after falling overboard while fishing

Forty-five-year-old Vickram Hardowar of Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara (WCD), is now feared dead after he fell out of a boat while he was fishing on Monday.
According to reports, the incident occurred at around 04:30h in the North West District area.
Based on reports received, Hardowar was part of a crew of six fishermen at the time when the incident occurred. Police said the man was tossing his fishing seine in the ocean some 65 miles offshore when his feet got entangled with the seine, causing him to fall overboard.
His co-workers, upon seeing what transpired, tossed two life jackets into his direction and were in the process of turning the boat around when they heard him shouting for help. The man’s colleagues told Police he shouted three times after which he went silent.
The men are presently at the Mabaruma Police Station assisting with the investigations. A search is underway to recover his body.
