Fisherman killed in hit-and-run accident on ECD road

A fisherman was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Better Hope, East Coast Demerara Public Road Saturday night.
Dead is 47-year-old Navindra Ramnarine of Diamond, East Bank Demerara. The accident occurred sometime around 20:00h.
An eyewitness told <<<Guyana Times>>> that Ramnaraine was crossing the road when he was struck by what appeared to be a Tundra pick-up vehicle.
The man related that Ramnarine was crossing from the northern side of the road and was already on the southern carriageway when the pick-up overtook a motor car and struck the victim.

It was related by the eyewitness that Ramnarine was dragged approximately 100 feet on the public road by the pick-up, which ran over the man before driving away from the scene, heading in the western direction.
Meanwhile, a relative of Ramnarine, Trisha, told this publication that the man was visiting his family at Better Hope and had been there for several days.
The woman said Ramnarine had gone to another relative’s house in north Better Hope and was on his way back when the accident occurred.
The traumatised woman said that they received news of the accident and when they arrived at the scene, they found the 47-year-old man lying on the roadway in a pool of blood.
Ramnarine leaves to mourn his daughter who lives in Suriname and stepchildren along with other relatives and friends.
