Five more teams advance to round 2

BCB/Brian Ramphal 1st Division Double- Wicket Competition…

The Hilbert Foster-led Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), continuing to break new ground in the Ancient County, is, for the first time in its 79-year history, hosting a double-wicket competition for first division teams.
Twelve pairs drawn from ten clubs started the knockout tournament, which is being played in an effort to bring out the cricketing public and simultaneously renew the passion for the game by all involved.
The winning pairs advancing are Rose Hall Town ‘A’, Blairmont, Albion ‘A,’ Albion ‘B’, and Upper Corentyne; while the game between Tucber Park and Rose Hall Canje is yet to be played, due to rain.
In the matches played, the Blairmont pair of Imran Khan and Kevin Jawahir defeated West Berbice by 22 runs. Blairmont raised 34 in four overs, with Imran Khan contributing 26; then West Berbice crumbled to 12 all out, as Khan and

Jawahir took one wicket each.
Rose Hall Town ‘A’ defeated Police by 40 runs. The eventual victor posted 60 without loss, with Kevin Sinclair and Clinton Pestano both unbeaten on 31 and 22 respectively. The team then restricted Police to 22 all out, and shared a wicket each.
Upper Corentyne defeated Skeldon by one wicket, the later posting 50 – 1 in four overs, compliments of Errol Byass, who was left not out on 41. Upper Corentyne steamed to 51 – 1 in 3.4 overs, as Rishi Persaud had 31 and Lakeram Latchman made 15.
Albion ‘A’ defeated Rose Hall Town ‘B’ by 32 runs. Albion ‘A’ made 50 in four overs, with Jonathan Foo putting up the bulk of the score with 49, as Eon Hooper took one wicket. Rose Hall Town ‘B’ were routed for 18 runs in 2 overs.
Albion ‘B’ defeated Port Mourant by 36 runs at Port Mourant. Albion ‘B’ posted 46 all out in four overs, with Gudakesh Motie contributing 45, then bowled Port Mourant out for 10.
Each first division club in Berbice selected three players to participate in the tournament, with two of them playing at a time. Albion Community Centre Cricket Club and Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets, as the top two clubs in Berbice, were given two pairs, but one of the players must be an Under-19 player. Each pair is supported by six additional fielders.
The tournament is being sponsored by overseas-based Guyanese Brian Ramphal, who earlier in the year had donated $1 million of his personal funds to the Berbice Cricket Board.
