Fmr GDF on the run after stabbing girlfriend, her mother
A former member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) is now evading law enforcement authorities after stabbing his girlfriend and her mother at his home on the East Coast of Demerara (EBD) on Tuesday evening.
On the run is 26-year-old James Rodwell Cadogan, also known as “Roddie”, of Haslington, ECD. Injured are 23-year-old Zenida April, a GDF rank, and her mother Nevorn April.
Zenida April’s brother, Keyon April, reported that his mother rented a house in Paradise, ECD, where she lived with his sister, but she subsequently moved out, leaving his sister in the house, and Cadogan subsequently moved in.
He related that, prior to the stabbing, his sister and Cadogan were having domestic issues, and on Monday last, during a row with his sister, Cadogan had threatened to stab her, thus resulting in her going to the home where her mother lives.
He further related that on the day following that incident, he received a phone call from his mother detailing what had occurred, and a report was lodged with the Police.
“(On) Tuesday, my mom call me and say let me come, she wants me to follow them to get Zenida things from up Paradise, because they have a little problem. So I went, and we left at about 9 o’clock [pm]. We stop at the Vigilance Police Station, and they (his mother and sister) went and made the report.
“They (Police) said they don’t have any patrol to go with us, so they tell we that we have to go (to) Enmore Police Station. At Enmore Police Station, they told us they don’t have any patrol, so we decided to go alone. This is around 11:00 in the night,” he detailed.
He added that, as they reached the house, the suspect was in one of the bedrooms. “As soon as my mother and sister went into the room, he locked the door from inside… I hear my mother screaming, so I jump through the window, and he ran out of the house and run into some bushes… I call 911 and told them what happened. My mom and sister were rushed to the hospital, and I stayed up and searched for him, but could not find him,” he explained.
Keyon April related that his sister was stabbed to her chest, neck, arms and back, while his mother was stabbed once to her shoulder. He said his mother was treated and sent away, but his sister remains hospitalised in a serious condition.
Keyon April has said that he went back to the Police Station the following day, and was told by the ranks that they have the situation under control; however, the suspect remains at large. He is therefore hoping that the suspect is arrested soon, since family members are living in fear that he might turn up to harm them.
