Folklores in Guyana displayed during Region 10 float parade
Nursery and primary school students and teachers from across Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) took to the streets in Linden on Friday as they brought the curtains down on this year’s children’s Mashramani celebrations with the annual costume parade.
Glittery faces and colourful costumes engulfed the streets as the procession pranced from the Five Corner area, along Republic Avenue before heading to the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC). The costumes were designed under the theme: “Folklores in Guyana”. Gyrating to the sounds of Soca music, the students made their way along the path as hundreds lined the streets to get a glimpse of the spectacle. At the MSC, the displays of cultural themes were judged based on their originality and how well they depicted the spirit of Mashramani. In the nursery category, Pine Street Nursery maintained its position with first place. Coomacka Nursery placed second while Republic Avenue Nursery secured third place. In the Primary category, Amelia’s Ward Primary gained first place with their costume depiction, “Mermadaleons in action”, while St Aidan’s Primary placed second and Watooka Day Primary School copped third place.
