Mother, son charged for drug trafficking

A mother and her son found themselves before Magistrate Leron Daly on Friday, charged with trafficking cocaine and cannabis.
Shantaline Dawson, 52, of Lot 155 Higginsville, Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara (EBD); and her 34-year-old son, Edgar Dawson of Lot 173 Charlotte Street, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday and denied the charges which stated that on February 25, 2019, they had in their possession 132 grams of cannabis and 23 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
According to Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh, the illegal substances were discovered hidden next to a garbage heap in the Charlotte Street, Georgetown yard.
In a bail application, lawyer for the Dawsons’ in a bail application inform the court that Shantaline suffers from kidney stones. Both mother and son were released on $50,000 each. The case will continue on April 5.
