Forked tongue…

…on Indian Arrival
Snakes, not surprisingly, have given rise to a slew of expressions connoting duplicitousness and betrayal. Just look how they slither unsuspectingly up to folks and then strike!! We all know we need to keep away from “a snake in the grass”.
In the US, the indigenous peoples who welcomed the Europeans with open arms – remember Pocahontas? – later accused them of speaking with “forked tongue” when they smiled and expressed friendship, then snatched their lands and herded them into reservations.
Well the forked tongues were out in their multitudes from the APNU/AFC officials who showed up to speak at Friday’s celebrations. The KN Muckraker mentioned that Khemraj Ramjattan showed up at one event at Diamond EBD and actually wished the participants “Happy Indian Arrival Day”!! Imagine that!! “INDIAN Arrival Day”. For 13 years, he’d slithered around talking about “Arrival Day”, but now that Pressie tells him it’s okay to say “Indian Arrival Day”, he jumps aboard the Whitby??!!
He should forever thank Pressie for saving him from “Mental Slavery”!!
For Moses Nagamootoo, it was even more shameful. A couple of years ago, he’d declared in New York he was “not an Indian”. But on Friday, he, too, said “Happy Indian Arrival Day” with Pressie at Highbury!! Hallelujah!!
Did Pressie explain that his excuse about “Indian” being someone who’s presently a CITIZEN of India was just plain doltishness?? EVERYONE knew what he was doing in New York: Brown nosing!!
But, this year, forked tongues were made so much starker with the acknowledgement that May 5th was INDIAN Arrival Day. This was the smile and handshakes. This was the praising of ancestors for saving the sugar industry, and thus saving Guyana. This was acknowledging the struggles of the Indians in the cane fields for their rights against the bullets of the colonial police force. This was praising the diversity the Indians added to the culture, food, religions etc to Guyana.
But the other side were the 1700 sugar workers thrown out on to the streets at Wales, and the 6000 at least – from Enmore/LBI, Rose Hall and Skeldon — about to join them on the starvation lines. This is a return to the famines that drove the foreparents of the Indians from India.
How can Moses Nagamootoo, Khemraj Ramjattan and others join with the PNC to destroy the livelihoods of so many Indians? For the PNC – as Burnham did – they’ll say it’s not “racial”, it’s just “political”. What’ll the AFC say in 2020 to get the 11% they promised the PNC?
For them and the others who “skin teeth” with the PNC on Indian Arrival Day, they aren’t just “dead meat”; they’re rotten dead meat”!!

…by Williams
Basil Williams, who bears several titles – Senior Counsel, Attorney General, Minister of Legal Affairs, and not to mention “Chairman of the PNC – seems determined to prove “the law is an ass”. But, up to now, all he’s done is prove over and over again he’s the one who’s the?
Let’s not mention all the times he’s put his size thirteen in his mouth in court as the AG, but go to his sordid performance in front of Justice Holder. When all is said and done, all of that drama was occasioned by Anil Nandlall making it obvious what a buffoon he was — in front of Justice Holder, a law school classmate of his. He wanted to show Justice Holder that he’d overcome his reputation from law school!!
The Chancellor (ag) shouldn’t have tried to be diplomatic with Williams’s contempt, but defend the rule of law, which declares even a king must bow to it.
Tomorrow, if Williams doesn’t apologise, Judge Holder must jail him for contempt.

…on GHPC
GHPC’s Board Chair has claimed the Parliamentary Sectoral Committee violated its request to “observe the conditions/facilities under which patients are cared for”.
Is she confirming GHPC’s Pharmacy doesn’t “care” for patients, because of drug shortages???
