Foulis man gets 2 years, fined $1M after confessing to rape

Thirty-eight-year-old John Chappelle, a construction worker of Foulis, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was on Wednesday sentenced to two years imprisonment and fined $1 million on a sexual assault charge.
The suspect who was arrested on July 13, 2025, appeared before Magistrate Worship Orinthia Schmidt at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Police stated that Chappelle was charged with the offence of ‘Sexual Activity with a Child Family Member’.
However, following his plea, he was sentenced to two years imprisonment and fined $1 million.
