A snippet of the ‘Greatest of the Streets’ action

In the first round of play, 16 of the best teams from Georgetown, Linden, Berbice, Bartica, and the East and West coasts of Demerara put their skills to the test in a quest to be recognised as the best street football team in the country.
Paradise ‘A’ opened the night’s proceedings with a 6-2 drubbing of Up Top Bosses. Teon Stewart (7th, 9th), Quincy Adams (4th, 14th) and Teshawn Gordon (19th) were the marksmen for Paradise. Gideon Payne struck a Guinness Goal for Up Top Bosses in the 18th minute, and that was counted as 2 goals.
All it took was a Ryan Seales goal (12th minute) for Melanie ‘B’ to needle Showstoppers; as did Brothers United’s 15th minute goal from Andrew Murray needle Sophia. Moses Gittens’s 23rd minute goal for Albuoystown was also enough to needle Ballers Empire.
Sparta Boss were dominant in their encounter against Beacons, winning 3-0 by way of goals from Gregory Richardson (GG- 18th) and Ryan Hackett (9th).
Leopold Street dispatched High Rollers with a 2-0 victory through a Guinness Goal from Omallo Williams in the 25th; while Broad Street sent Trafalgar packing with a win by the same margin. Akeem Sam was the man with the golden boot for Broad Street, scoring in the 3rd and 8th minutes.
In the final game of the round, Gold is Money arrested the Police team and gave them a 3-0 thumping. Randolph Wagner netted a brace with goals in the 8th and 15th, while Jermin Junior added another in the 13th for their 3.
Gold is Money remained unblemished in the quarterfinal, as they defeated Paradise ‘A’ 3-0. Once again, Randolph Wagner (5th) found the back of the net, and his teammate Hubert Pedro pushed the core to 3 with a Guinness Goal in the 19th.
A Guinness Goal from Alex Murray caused Brothers United to cruise into the semifinal with a 2-0 victory over Leopold Street, while the other encounters went done to penalties.
At the penalty mark, Melanie ‘B’ registered a lone strike to advance ahead of Albouystown, while Sparta Boss edged out Broad Street 3-2.
Sparta Boss was scheduled to take on Brothers United in the semifinals, while Gold is Money and Melanie ‘B’ were slated to have a face-off.
The semifinal matches and the grand finale were expected to be played last night (August 10) at the Jubilee Park in Georgetown, but the results were not available up to press time.
