Fraudster granted $200,000 bail

A Port Kaituma fraudster was on Thursday slapped with a fraudulent conversion charge and released on 0,000 bails by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, after a successful bail application by Defence Counsel.

Mark Anthony October had allegedly received on September 9, 2016, at Port Kaituma, Region One (Barima-Waini), 106 barrels of diesel valued at $2.7 million from Julian Thomas; on account of Virtual Complainant (VC) Bharrat Bissoon, in order to sell, process and place into the Bank of Guyana account of Bissoon the proceeds of the sale.

The accused had reportedly converted same to his use and benefit, instead of the intended purpose.

October’s lawyer contended that his client usually executes business of similar nature for the VC; requesting bail at a reasonable sum.

The Magistrate fixed bail to the sum of $200,000 and transferred the matter to be heard at the Mathews Ridge Magistrate’s Court on May 9.
