In the fourth double-header of Season III of the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Elite League, Fruta Conquerors FC humbled Ann’s Grove FC 3-0 while Western Tigers needed two goals either side of halftime to win 2-1 against Milerock FC.
Fruta Conquerors started off aggressively with the ominous Jermaine Junior taking only two minutes to net Fruta’s opening goal. However Ann’s Grove defense recuperated enough to hold off Fruta’s fluid offensive unit for 77 minutes. Elder statesmen Anthony “Awo” Abrams and Eon Alleyne scored a goal apiece deep into the second half to cement Fruta’s victory. Abrams’ strike hit the back of the net in the 79th minute while Alleyne registered his name on the scoresheet in added time (90+4 Minutes).
Following his team’s victory, Fruta Conquerors’ coach Sampson Gilbert applauded his team’s victory. However he noted that there are still a few areas that his side has to work on.
He stated; “I thought tonight was a good performance. However, they are many areas which we weren’t as efficient as we could be; finishing is one of those areas we are working continuously to improve, central midfield is another area we thought we can do better in terms of out tactical awareness and our strategy as a team.”
In the second game of the night Western Tigers had Andrew Murray Jr to thank for their 2-1 victory as he scored either side of halftime to give his team maximum points. The Western Tigers clawed their way back from 1-0 down after Milerock’s Kester Randolph netted in the fitfh minute. Two minutes from the halftime whistle Murray powered home a sumptuous drive to equalize for his team. When the second half resumed Murray sealed the deal for Western with a well taken toe-poke in the 69th minute.
The league will continue today with another double header; this time on the West Coast of Demerara at Den Amstel. Victoria Kings will take on the Cougars at 14:00hrs while Buxton face home side Den Amstel at 16:00h.
