Home Sports GABF discloses trial team for Americup qualifiers
Just two weeks away from the national team’s Americup stint in Colombia, the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) has announced a 22-member trial squad that will be a part of preparations for the impending tournament.
The 22-member squad which comprises overseas and locally-based players will be a part of two days of trials this weekend – February 9 and 10 – from 07:00h to 09:00h and 05:00h to 07:00h respectively. The trials are expected to determine which players are best for the qualifiers and to also discover some talent.
Following this weekend of scouting, the Federation will host seven days of encampment for those players who were selected to represent the Golden Arrowhead.
The team is expected to jet off to Colombia on February 20, after which the FIBA Americup qualifiers will run from February 22 to 24 in Tunja, Colombia. Guyana has been drawn in Group B of the qualifiers with hosts Colombia, Bolivia and Paraguay. This qualifier tournament, if won, will grant Guyana a place in the FIBA Americup Championship 2021.
The GABF is optimistic of qualifying for the international tournament after having won the Caribbean Basketball Championships in June 2018. Successful CBC coach and GABF Technical Coordinator Junior Hercules will lead the national team once again.
