The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) held a press conference and welcome ceremony yesterday at Cara Lodge, Quamina Street as a lead up to the DC Jammers four-game Goodwill Tour set to tip-off tonight.
GABF’s President, Nigel Hinds, DC Jammers assistant coach Clarence Wallerson, Head Coach Michael Creppy and players of the DC Jammers among others were present at the conference.
President of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF), Nigel Hinds stated that the GABF looks forward to engagement between GABF and the DC Jammers since this year the Jammers will be playing against local clubs rather that the National Basketball Team; giving exposure to a wider pool of players from the various local clubs.
DC Jammers’ assistant coach and Guyanese born, Clarence Wallerson expressed his gratitude towards the GABF for hosting the Jammers as part of the 50th Independence anniversary celebrations.
“The DC Jammers relish this opportunity to come back to Guyana, especially during Guyana’s 50th Independence Celebrations; we look forward to a great tour.”
Wallerson also highlighted that such a tour is important for the basketball development since his players will be able to demonstrate their skill, sportsmanship and a high level of competition with the Guyanese players.
Jammers’ head coach, Michael Creppy pointed out that fans should look out for Jammers up and coming star the Guyanese born, Winston Robinson who has displayed his “exceptional, extraordinary and phenomenal” skill, talent and athleticism on numerous occasions for the Jammers and noted that it would be a treat to have Robinson represent Guyana one day.
The Jammers will take on four of Guyana’s top basketball clubs as part of their four game Goodwill tour, with the first game this evening against Ravens. They will then oppose Linden unit; the Retrieve Raiders on May 22nd before coming up against Pacesetters on May 24th. The four game tour will conclude on May 27th against reigning Road to Mecca Champions; the Colts. Each game will feature clashes from our school teams currently engaged in the National School Basketball Festival. Jump ball time is 18:30 Hrs.
