Gajnabi, Millington lead Berbice to championship win

ꟷ Essequibo register 4-wicket win over U-19s

West Indies female player and Berbice captain, Shabika Gajnabi, together with ‘player of the match’ Plaffiana Millington, led Berbice to a championship win in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Superbet Senior Female Inter-County Tournament.
Watched by a fair-sized crowd that included West Indies players Shemaine Campbelle and Cherry-Ann Fraser, Berbice cruised to a seven-wicket win over Demerara at GCC, Bourda.

Demerara won the toss and batted first. They were restricted to 104 all out in 41.4 overs, as Latoya Smith, with 49, was the only one who registered double figures for Demerara.
Millington grabbed 4-14 in 7.4 brilliant overs, which included three maidens. Left-arm spinner Dian Prahalad, who had taken five in the previous round, claimed 2-28 in this encounter. Veteran seamers Erva Giddings (2-19) and Tremayne Smartt (1-30) completed a collective bowling effort.

Responding, the Berbice first round double-centurion Shabika Gajnabi produced another batting masterclass when she recorded an unbeaten 52 that included three fours and one six. The right-hander was supported by Smartt with an unbeaten 24 as Berbice ended victorious on 105-3 in 21 overs.
Kaysia Schultz, Mandy Mangru and Akaze Thompson each took one wicket for Demerara.
In the other fixture at Enmore, Essequibo registered a four-wicket win against the Guyana Select U-19 team. Batting first, the Select U-19 were bowled out for 60 in 20.4 overs, with extras contributing a whopping 35 and recording their major score. Player of the match, Nathaly Chaitram, bagged 4-6 in four overs.
In reply, Essequibo ended on 61-6 made in 21.5 overs.
Despite Nivena Ramnauth’s 4-14, Essequibo ended the match as victors, with Khemwattie Tulshi scoring an unbeaten 13 and extras contributing 25 to their victory. At the presentation ceremony done at GCC Bourda, GCB Secretary Anand Sanasie and Superbet Marketing Assistant Nickoli Primo expressed delight with the show put on by the ladies.
Superbet will be branding the Regional team that would play in the tournament later this month in Guyana. The Guyana Senior Team will be announced shortly, and West Indies Women’s Assistant Coach Rayon Griffith is set to take charge. (Brandon Corlette)
