The 52.852 kilograms of marijuana

Eduardo Moore made his final court appearance at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court where he was convicted. He was jailed for three years and fined $41,224,560 for the offence which occurred in April 2019.
The Essequibo Coast resident initially pleaded not guilty to the charge, but Magistrate Zameela Ali-Seepaul, in summing up the matter, found sufficient evidence to convict him.
It was reported that on April 15, 2019, at Anna Cathrina Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD), he trafficked 52.852 kilograms of marijuana.
Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor, Narissa Leander in presenting her case stated that CANU ranks acting on information intercepted motor car PVV 9817 at Anna Catherina, WCD. A search was conducted, and two suitcases containing several transparently wrapped parcels containing marijuana were found.
Moore was told of the offence and charged. After spending months on remand, he was eventually granted bail pending the outcome of the trial.
During the sentencing, Moore, in his plea of mitigation, said, “Do not send me back to prison. Prison is a really bad place, and it’s not for me. I don’t want to go back there because I could serve society better outside of prison than inside.” (G1)
