Ganja trafficker jailed for 5 years

An Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) resident, who was nabbed after Police ranks unearthed 27 kilograms of cannabis at his home, was on Wednesday jailed for five years and fined $10.8 million when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Errol Brown of Lot 125 Eccles, East Bank Demerara appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, along with Shellyann Pompey, 28, of Craig, East Bank Demerara, who was arrested with Brown.
The charge stated that on August 19, 2019 at Brown’s Eccles, EBD home, they had in their possession 27.318 kilograms of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Brown admitted to the charge, while Pompey denied the offence.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that on August 19 at about 11:00h, ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch went to Brown’s residence to carry out a search.
According to the Prosecutor, the compressed cannabis was found in the house and both Brown and Pompey were arrested and taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Pompey, in her address to the court, stated that she was only a mere guest at the home when the search was conducted. The Chief Magistrate, after listening to the facts, sentenced Brown to five years behind bars and fined him. Meanwhile, Pompey was released on $200,000 bail. Her case will continue on August 29.
