GBTI GCC, GCC Pitbulls dominate over hockey weekend

Over the past weekend, brilliant sunshine permitted the reconvening of the Bounty Paper Towel – Quicker Picker Upper – Second Division and the Solo Soft Drink Under-20 hockey leagues.

GBTI GCC were relentless on Saturday

With both leagues entering the second round of play, the action was intensified at the St Stanislaus College Ground, Carifesta Avenue.
The Saints ladies sought to keep their stellar track record going in the Under-20 women’s division as they thumped Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Her-ricanes 5-0 on Saturday. Sueann Fraser and Charlia Webb paved the way for the win with two goals each and Kezia Chinian contributed one for the 5-0 victory.
The male division had similar hype as the GCC Pitbulls silenced the YMCA Old Fort Hockey Club (OFHC) Generals 6-0. Vladimir Woodroffe was the leading man for the Pitbulls with a brace.
Shakeem Fausette single-handedly propelled his team, Saints Hockey Club (SHC) Samurai to a 2-0 win in their Under-20 encounter. Coming up against YMCA OFHC Ballerz, Fausette netted in the 23rd and 27th minutes for Samurai’s 2-0 victory.
Meanwhile in the Second Division league, GBTI GCC Women had the largest tally of the day when they pummelled YMCA OFHC Wildcats 12-0. Both Sonia Jardine and Princessa Wilkie netted hat-tricks for the GCC Women, as Sandy Roopnarine contributed two to the mammoth total.
Over in the men’s division, YMCA OFHC Aces had a close call, but eventually edged out the YMCA OFHC Rusty 4-3. Dominic Alleyne, Shaquon Favourite, Simeon Moore, and Theodore Thierens each netted one goal for the Aces’ victory.
GCC the Sequel also found themselves in the winner’s row as they flattened the Hikers Cadets 6-0. Damon Woodroffe led from the front with a hat-trick and Alan Fernandes put up a brace. Medroy Scotland contributed a lone goal to push the total to six.

A snippet of the Under-20 action

The hockey action continued at the same venue on Sunday afternoon with another set of exciting matches.
In the Under-20 division, John Phang and Meshach Sargeant secured one goal each to give GCC Pitbulls a 2-0 win over the SHC Samurai.
A brace from Baraka Garnett and one each from Troy Hodge and Hilmar Chester ensured that the SHC Shockwaves would sit pretty in the men’s Second Division as they defeated YMCA OFHC Rusty 4-1.
YMCA OFHC Rusty never really got their groove going on Sunday as they experienced another defeat, this time at the hands of Hikers Cadets. Travis McKenzie notched his name twice on the score sheet for Hikers Cadets. Sherwyn Caesar and David Williams both scored once for Hikers’ 4-1 win.
Captain of the SHC Savages Hilton Chester pulled off some heroics on Sunday, netting a hat-trick of goals to hand his team a victory over YMCA OFHC. However, Old Fort did not take the loss lying down as Theodore Thierens and Shaquon Favourite netted one goal each for a final score of 3-2.
