GBTI Marketing Manager Pernell Cummings hands over the cheque to Civil Defence Commission Director General, Colonel (Retired) Nazrul Hussain

The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited (GBTI) on Friday handed over a cheque to the tune of $3,720,195 to Director General of the Civil Defence Commission (CDC), Colonel (Retired) Nazrul Hussain.
The amount was collected through a fund spearheaded by the banking facility to support those affected by the Mahdia Secondary School fire which claimed the lives of 19 teenagers and a five-year-old.
The donation was handed over by the bank’s Marketing Manager, Pernell Cummings.
In a release to the media, the bank explained that the Mahdia Fund was established in response to the devasting fire at the school’s dormitory back in May this year which not only resulted in the loss of lives but complete destruction of the school’s infrastructure.
“GBTI not only contributed to the fund but also sought support from its customers and the public to contribute to this noble cause.”
The fund was closed at the end of August, and the raised funds will be channelled through the CDC to provide support to those affected by the tragedy.”
GBTI expressed its gratitude to all those who contributed to the fund and extended hope and best wishes to the people of Mahdia and Region Eight.
This effort by GBTI demonstrates the institution’s corporate social responsibility and community support, which is crucial in times of crisis and need.
