GCB President to attend Sir Garfield Sobers’ State funeral

The President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Bissoondyal Singh, will attend the State Funeral of The Right Excellent Sir Garfield St Auburn Sobers, representing the Guyana Cricket Board and the wider cricket fraternity of Guyana.
Prior to the funeral, a delegation from the Guyana Cricket Board, headed by President Singh, joined the legendary Sir Clive Lloyd and former West Indies Captain and current Chairman of Selectors, Ramnaresh Sarwan, in signing the Book of Condolence at Duke Lodge, Kingston, Georgetown, in honour of the extraordinary life and enduring legacy of Sir Garfield.
Also in attendance were GCB Secretary Ronald Williams; Cricket Operations Manager Anthony D’Andrade; Guyana Harpy Eagles Manager and Senior Selector, Surendra Hiralall; and Cricket Ombudsman, Malcolm Peters.

President Singh stated, “Sir Garfield Sobers was not only one of the greatest cricketers the world has ever seen, but also a proud symbol of West Indian excellence, unity and achievement. His remarkable contribution to cricket inspired generations across the Caribbean and throughout the world. It is a profound honour to represent the Guyana Cricket Board at his State Funeral and to pay our final respects to a true icon of our regional heritage.”
The State Funeral of The Right Excellent Sir Garfield St Auburn Sobers will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 10:00h at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. The ceremony will take the form of a national thanksgiving service honouring his distinguished life and unparalleled contribution to Barbados, West Indies cricket, and the international game.
