GCB U17 Inter-County cricket: Mohabir’s all-round brilliance spurs Demerara to easy win over Berbice

Demerara U17 thrashed Berbice U17 by 113 runs as the U17 Inter-County action continued on Tuesday at the LBI Ground. This victory came compliments of Alvin Mohabir, who bailed his team out of trouble with a fighting half century and two important wickets.

Alvin Mohabir scored 58 and bagged 2 for 7

Demerara, having won the toss and electing to bat first, found themselves in trouble as Berbice managed to pick up some early wickets to leave them struggling at 38-3.
Then Alvin Mohabir came to the crease. He dug deep to score a patient 58, which came off 100 balls, and when he departed, the score stood at 133-5, Isai Thorne and Shiv Harripersaud having done most of the damage.
However, things were far from over, as Thorne returned to put the final nail in the Demerara coffin in bowling them out for 179 in 49.1 overs. Besides Mohabir’s 58, Shiloh Adams contributed a 125-ball 29, and Jonathan Van Lange contributed 26.
Bowling for Berbice, Isai Thorne took 5-57, Shiv Harripersaud took 2-30 and Sanjay Algoo took 1-33.

Heading into the highly anticipated chase, Berbice were bundled out for 66 runs made in 31.2 overs. There was trouble in the Berbice camp from the get-go, and by the 20th over the score read 39-5. And with most of their top order gone, the lower order folded meekly under pressure.
The Demerara unit showed great fight as they bowled a disciplined line and length. Sasenarine Harricharran was the star of the show, bagging 4-11. Mohabir returned with the ball and picked up 2-7 off his seven overs, which included three maidens.
Adding to the Berbicians’ woes were Mhyiem Khan with figures of 1-8, Romeo Deonarine with figures of 1-12, and Riyad Latiff with figures of 1-10.
