Guyana’s top cyclists will battle for national honours when the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) stages its National Road Racing Championships over two weekends, beginning with the Time Trial event tomorrow, June 14, and concluding with the Road Race Championship on June 21.
The championships, which carry the theme “One Nation, One Road, One Champion”, will feature competition across several categories, including Females, Juveniles, Juniors, Masters 35+, Masters 50+ and the Elite and Under-23 divisions.
The action will begin on Sunday, June 14, with the Time Trial Championship around the National Park Circuit. Sign-on closes at 08:45h, while the first rider is scheduled to leave the start ramp at 09:00h.
The road race championship is set for June 21 along the Linden Junction-Kairuni-Linden Junction route. The circuit measures 26 miles per lap, and riders will contest varying distances based on their categories.
Female cyclists will cover one lap (26 miles), while juveniles will ride one and a half laps for a total of 39 miles, turning back at a designated point on the course. Juniors, Masters 35+ and Masters 50+ competitors will each complete two laps for a distance of 52 miles.
The feature Elite and Under-23 category will cover four laps, totalling 104 miles, in what is expected to be the most demanding race of the championships.
Racing on June 21 will begin with the Female category at 08:30h. Juveniles and Juniors are scheduled to start at 09:00h, followed by Masters 35+ riders at 09:30h. The Elite and Under-23 competitors will roll off at 11:00h.
Organisers are encouraging cyclists from across the country to participate in the championships, with registration set at GY$3000. The event will determine the nation’s road racing champions for 2026 and is expected to attract many of Guyana’s leading riders as they compete for national titles.
