The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has deployed a helicopter to assist the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) in containing a savannah fire near Moblissa Ranch along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
The GDF said that, following reports of the fire, its Air Corps conducted an aerial reconnaissance of the affected area and identified several active fire pockets.
While GFS crews began ground firefighting operations, the GDF deployed a helicopter equipped with specialised aerial firefighting equipment to drop water on sections of the fire.

The aircrew, led by Lieutenant Colonel Anson Weekes, with Sergeant Clyde Jones operating the firefighting equipment, completed nearly 30 water drops.
According to the GDF, the aerial water drops reduced the intensity of the fire, allowing ground crews to continue their efforts.
Joint aerial assessments and coordinated air and ground operations will continue as the two services work to contain the fire and limit its spread.
The GDF said operations remain ongoing, with available resources being deployed as required to protect nearby communities and property.
