Two heavily-tinted motor vehicles carrying four occupants were intercepted by Police on Thursday evening after being observed lurking near President Irfaan Ali’s private residence at Leonora, West Coast Demerara.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the vehicles were observed at about 18:20h on September 3, raising security concerns in the area.
The Police said that after the occupants observed the vigilance of Presidential Guards on duty, the two vehicles sped away.

A distress call was immediately issued, and Police patrols in the area were alerted. The vehicles were subsequently intercepted.
Reports are that one of the vehicles was intercepted near Windsor Forest. A search was conducted on the detained vehicle, and US-sanctioned and indicted Azruddin Mohamed was one of the occupants. He was questioned and taken to the Leonora Police Station.
In a separate statement, the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said several unregistered drones were discovered in the possession of the occupants.
The GCAA said it takes the matter seriously and reminded the public that the unauthorised operation of drones, including unmanned aircraft within restricted or prohibited airspace, is illegal and may constitute a criminal offence under the Civil Aviation Act 2018 and applicable aviation regulations.
The Authority warned that operating drones in restricted airspace, near protected locations, or in a manner that compromises aviation safety, national security, or public safety will not be tolerated.
The GCAA said it is working with relevant law enforcement and national security authorities and will take appropriate action against persons found to be operating drones unlawfully.
It said offenders could face prosecution and applicable penalties.
Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
