Shamar Halley and Mark Crawford of the Forgotten Youths Foundation Gym were adjudged the best boxers after a weekend of riveting boxing action.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) took home the overall win once again.
Shamar Halley displays his accolades on Sunday evening
The GDF gym once again dominated Terrence Ali National Intermediate Boxing Tournament, coordinated by the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GBA).
The GDF gym, which has now copped the title in consecutive years, brought home six individual weight class titles to lift the trophy once again.
GDF’s Quacy Abrams fought in the flyweight category and by the end of Sunday evening, he defeated all the other pugilists in the category for a win. Junior welterweight Orland Grenville, welterweight Cranston Mc Allister, middleweight Jermin Jones, heavyweight Damian France and super heavyweight Kevin Hunt, all of the GDF, won their individual categories to push the GDF to an overall victory.
Forgotten Youths Foundation and Rose Hall Jammers tied for second place.
Halley and Crawford both fought valiantly for the Forgotten Youths Foundation, as they copped the best elite and best youth boxer awards respectively. This is the second consecutive best boxer accolade that Halley has copped. The 19-year-old is yet to be defeated in his amateur boxing career. Earlier on Sunday night, Halley had won the lightweight class while Crawford won the youth bout. In other results, Andre Best won the bantamweight category.
The Terrence Ali tourney ran from Friday, October 4 to Sunday, October 6.
