George, Hopper increase Guyana’s medal tally

Guyana’s Winston George took the bronze medal in his Men’s 200m Final On Thursday as his part in the 2017 edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games came to an end.

The Olympian who had won silver in the Men’s 400m on Wednesday, clocked a time of 20.62s to secure third spot some way off his season’s best time of 20.40s. Ramil Guliev of Turkey took gold in the event as he clocked a time of 20.08s, while Salim Eid Yaqoob of Brunei Darussalam claimed silver in 20.56s.

In the field events, overseas-based athlete, Natrena Hooper, won Guyana’s third medal in her High Jump. Hooper jumped her way to bronze at 1.77 Metres in her favoured event while she had finished sixth on Wednesday in the Women’s Triple Jump.

Nadiya Dusanova of Uzbekistan took the gold with a leap of 1.80 metres while Yousra Arar of Algeria took silver with a jump of 1.77 metres as well, clearing the bar one jump ahead of Hooper.

While both Hooper and George’s part in the games has come to an end, Guyana still has Alita Moore who is set to compete in the Women’s 400 metres final today as well as Emmanuel Archibald who will be taking part in the Men’s Long Jump.
