Georgetown Campus dominates GPF Inter-Campus Sports

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) Academy’s Georgetown Campus emerged as champions when recruits from the Georgetown, Essequibo, and Berbice campuses competed in the Academy’s Inter-Campus Day of Sports on Saturday, August 29, at the GPF Sports Club, Eve Leary.

The event brought together recruits from the three campuses for a day of competitive sporting activities, while promoting physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, and camaraderie among the ranks.
The day’s activities commenced with a colourful and well-coordinated march-past, which tested the discipline and presentation of the recruits. The Essequibo Campus, led by Inspector McAlmont, captured first place, while the Georgetown Campus finished second.
Senior Superintendent Sonia Hubert, the Director of the GPF Academy, attended the event and encouraged the ranks to place greater emphasis on maintaining physical fitness as part of their professional development. Assistant Superintendent Gladwyn Handover, Commandant of the GPF Essequibo Campus, was also present.
The sporting programme featured track and field events, along with football and other recreational activities.
Georgetown Academy dominated both relay events, winning the 4×100-metre and 4×400-metre relays. In the 4×100-metre, Georgetown’s first team finished first, ahead of Essequibo in second and Georgetown’s second team in third.
The Georgetown Campus also secured the top spot in the 4×400-metre relay, with Essequibo placing second and Georgetown’s second team finishing third.
Constable Stewart emerged victorious in the men’s 100-metre race, with Constable Lovell taking second and Constable Abrams third. In the women’s 100 metres, Constable Boston secured first place, followed by Constable Lamazon in second, and Constable Innis in third.
The Georgetown Campus continued its strong showing on the football field, securing victory in the football match, while Essequibo finished as runners-up.
Following a highly competitive day of activities, the Georgetown Campus was crowned overall champion among the three participating campuses.
Constable Stewart was rewarded for an outstanding individual performance by being named Best Athlete of the Day.
The Inter-Campus Day of Sports formed part of the GPF Academy’s continued efforts to promote physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, and healthy competition among its recruits, while reinforcing the importance of maintaining high standards of fitness in the Police service.
